Society had developed to the point where banks played an increasingly important role in the operation of the entire social system.
If nothing unexpected happened, they would become the core of the economy and finance. In the future, even the Federal Government would have to revolve around the banks.
But the problem lay in the phrase "if nothing unexpected happened." Something unexpected had occurred. The Ice Age was about to descend.
Social order was on the verge of collapse. In the face of a collapsing society, all cause-and-effect relationships and every food chain would be disrupted and redistributed.
Banks would remain important, but their status was steadily weakening.
When the senior executives of five banks arrived together at the Presidential Palace, Conner did not appear particularly "accommodating." He had not even left his office!
In the past, if people of such importance had come to visit together, Conner might well have gone to the gates of the Presidential Palace to welcome them.
This time, however, he sat on his leather sofa, patting the armrest as he waited for them to walk in through the main entrance.
After the five men entered, Conner waited another two seconds before smiling and rising. "The trip here seems to have gone smoothly!"
"The weather is nice today. I originally wanted to talk in the courtyard, but they told me it wasn't very safe."
"What would you like to drink?"
All five men ordered coffee. The coffee cart outside the Presidential Palace quickly prepared six cups of premium coffee and delivered them inside.
Six men held their coffee cups, a myriad of thoughts flashing through their minds.
After a long while, the Board of Directors Chairman of Prosperous Glory Bank glanced at the people beside him, furrowing his brows slightly before picking up Conner's words.
