"What happened? Why did the police come looking for you?"
Sanchez shot a sidelong glance at his uncle, the president, then left the room with the phone in hand.
Standing in the corridor and listening to his subordinate's report, his temples throbbed. It was one of the signs that his emotions were about to erupt.
He had arranged for his men to capture the president's family. To avoid affecting anyone else, he had even had them taken to the villa's cellar.
That cellar was used to store all kinds of alcoholic beverages. It wasn't simply a room dug underground; maintaining a constant temperature also had to be taken into consideration, so it was built in multiple layers.
If someone fired a gun in the cellar, no one outside would hear it. Even if someone threw a bomb inside, people outside would only hear a few muffled booms.
It was also convenient for disposing of bodies there. As long as the bodies were sealed inside wine barrels, no one would know whether those people were dead or missing unless someone came to retrieve the wine.
But now the police had come knocking, forcing Sanchez to wonder whether his men had done something they shouldn't have and alerted the federal police.
The response from the other end of the phone came quickly. They hadn't done anything, but the police had still arrived.
Once they became entangled in a firefight, leaving?
That would be nothing but a pipe dream. The police reinforcements would only keep growing, and they might even mobilize the militia and the troops in the Restricted Area.
After all, this was Bu Peien, the core of the Federation! Sanchez paced back and forth with a headache. "Leave as soon as possible. Find a way out. Don't get entangled with them!"
