Deep within the dark alleys of Bayard District, the River Loen wound its way through like a pitch-black, shadowy scar.
It was one of Agasha's most famous rivers, having witnessed the rise of the entire city. Countless people came every year to travel and take photos. Yet the stretch running through Bayard District was an eyesore. Under the neon lights, the river shifted through bizarre colors, while foam and industrial wreckage gathered and scattered across its greasy surface, making it little more than an oversized cesspool.
On the other side of the embankment, however, an entirely different kind of bustle rushed at her. Bar signs shimmered with halos, cheap inn signs flickered on and off, and the crowded streets teemed with oddly dressed people from all walks of life. The air was thick with cheap perfume, fried food, and the vague scent of exotic spices.
In that respect, although it occupied a similar niche to Blackwater District, Agasha was clearly far more prosperous than Ish City. Even its slums looked a little more pleasant.
Ivette's gaze swept over the pedestrians by the roadside as she considered whether to use her hacking ability to steal some intelligence and further refine her plans. But a few seconds later, a Shuttlecraft suddenly flew up in front of her.
Judging by its design, it was a steam-lantern-style Shuttlecraft powered by wind elements. Its bright yellow lampshade was wrapped in a black grille, making it look as though it had flown out of a fairy-tale magic academy. It was rather cute.
"Beautiful miss," a clear male voice said from within the lampshade with official cordiality, "we are the Agasha Police, AJSP, conducting a routine identity check for illegal immigrants in Bayard District. Please present your ID card. Thank you for your cooperation."
