Dragons were the strongest individual creatures on Terra. No one would dispute that they were also the strongest collective, either. People were not that idle, nor did they have such overwhelming racial pride that they had to stubbornly insist they were stronger than dragons.
They were mighty, sturdy, and powerful. Dragons followed creeds and rules, and kept their promises far better than any human upon the earth.
Though there were indeed mad dragons and frenzied dragons that scourged the living, there were also dragon lords who sheltered a region and upheld order.
People feared True Dragons, revered True Dragons, yearned for True Dragons, and wished to become True Dragons.
That was why there was the Dragon-Worshiping Cult... why there were True Dragon bloodlines.
But.
What about the Dragon Kings?
The strongest among all dragons beneath this land and sky, the "kings" of dragons... what had They done?
How strong were They, exactly?
That was, in truth, a difficult question to answer.
Because Dragon Kings almost never descended upon the earth—they might act, or answer a call, once every few centuries.
But even so, Dragon Kings would absolutely never descend upon the earth lightly, as though everything on the ground bore some unbearable poison.
Some said that Dragon Kings came from the kingdom of gods. They disdained everything about mortals; those ancient kings of True Dragons had grown weary of all things upon the earth and did not even wish to spare them another glance.
Some said Dragon Kings ruled the boundless, endless dark firmament. They were the kings of sunlight and moonlight, and the shining lights in the heavens were Their gaze. Just as humans would not venture deep into an anthill to eat and live alongside ants, Dragon Kings naturally did the same.
