"Soldier Boy is useless. What could he possibly have accomplished?"
Homelander sneered dismissively at that. His words left Edgar and Madelyn looking rather uncomfortable, because they had accomplished nothing either.
Edgar hated the organization that had inflicted such devastating losses on Vought International. Over the past month or so, he had poured enormous amounts of time and effort into investigating them, only to come up empty. Those people seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth.
"Homelander, go get ready. This production will determine Vought International's fate. We can't afford to be careless."
Madelyn hurried to smooth things over. Homelander nodded and left with his speech.
Once Homelander had left, Edgar said, "Madelyn, I'm leaving this in your hands. If you succeed, your office will be on the same floor as mine."
That meant a promotion for Madelyn. She glanced at Edgar. Was this his way of compensating me?
"We'll definitely succeed this time."
Madelyn spoke with absolute confidence, then left with Fake Hughie. Edgar shook his head. Success would naturally be ideal, but if they failed, Madelyn would make the perfect scapegoat.
"Let's hope everything goes smoothly. Vought International has had terrible luck lately."
Edgar shook his head. Vought International had to survive, because the Vought Pharmaceutical Company needed vast amounts of money. Their experiments burned through tens of millions of dollars every day.
Edgar had no objection to that, because it was necessary. Once the Vought Pharmaceutical Company succeeded, this world would be theirs.
The president had no idea anyone was plotting to kidnap him. He and Nathan were aboard Air Force One, heading for New York.
"Nathan, thank you for all your hard work lately."
The president was very pleased with Nathan. In every respect, he was an excellent partner. More importantly, he was young.
