Actually, all one had to do to enter through this magical door was say the word "friend" in Elvish, but Gandalf clearly hadn't thought of that.
Andrew did not remind Gandalf. He looked at the lake beside them, his eyes flickering.
"Smaug, what are you looking at?"
Ganahta asked weakly. She was a little hungry again. To reach Moria as quickly as possible, they had skipped a meal earlier.
"There's a giant octopus in the lake," Andrew said. "It's preparing to attack us."
"What?"
Everyone was shocked. Pippin and Merry, who had been playing in the water, hurriedly ran ashore. Aragorn, Boromir, and the others became alert, while Gandalf was still trying out spells. He refused to believe that he, Gandalf the all-knowing, could not open this door.
As for a giant octopus, please—with Smaug here, what was there to fear?
"A giant octopus?"
Ganahta was not afraid either. Drooling, she said, "Octopus balls and grilled octopus are both delicious. Smaug, drag it up and roast it."
Everyone looked at Ganahta speechlessly. This girl was a complete foodie.
"No problem."
Andrew smiled and said, "Éowyn, get into the lake and lure the giant octopus out."
"What?"
Éowyn was stunned. Aragorn frowned and said, "The giant octopus is dangerous. There's no need to lure it out just for some food. Gandalf, hurry up and figure out the spell. We should enter the mine and leave this place."
Gandalf said irritably, "I'm thinking. Since you have so much to say, why don't you figure it out?"
Gandalf's temper had never been particularly good. Of course, he was still very kind-hearted, and many children liked him.
"Éowyn, didn't you hear my order?"
Andrew said coldly. Frodo and the others were somewhat displeased. How could he make Éowyn, a woman, serve as bait alone?
