You weren't seeing things. Andrew took out his phone and called Luigi. This was New York; there was signal here. As long as Luigi hadn't lost his phone, he would definitely receive the call.
There was no signal in Mario World. Luigi's phone was very likely not confiscated, because those turtles simply had no awareness of such things. The only concern was that the phone might have been accidentally damaged.
Fortunately, that hadn't happened. The call quickly connected, and Luigi's excited voice came through the speaker. "Mario, is that you? Mario?"
"Of course it's me. I've entered Lava Island. Where are you?"
Andrew asked. Luigi hurriedly replied, "I'm in the prison beneath Lava Island. They locked me in an iron cage, with Magma below. One wrong move and I'll fall in and die horribly.
"Also, besides me, there are lots of people from other races, like Penguins, Apes, and so on."
"There are lots of other people? That's really good news."
Andrew's eyes lit up, and he immediately flew down toward the prison. However, two turtles holding spears stood guard at the prison entrance.
When the two turtles saw Andrew, they both aimed their spears at him. Andrew didn't waste any words and flew straight at them, knocking both turtles over.
Next, Andrew opened the gate and entered the prison. Just as Luigi had said, this prison was very unusual. Everyone was locked inside birdcages, with scorching Magma directly beneath them.
"Mario, I knew you'd come save me!"
Luigi shouted excitedly. The others also looked at Andrew happily. The captured Penguin King even said, "Save us, and I'll reward you with a castle."
"I doubt I could fit in your castle."
Andrew shrugged and began rescuing everyone, explaining the current situation as he did so. "We have to defeat King
