Andrew's words surprised Alex and Brandon. Alex noticed something odd: why had Andrew emphasized "real"? Were there fake ability users too?
Something occurred to Brandon, and he asked, "Is your ability kung fu? I've always thought you were way too good in a fight."
"Are you sure that's even an ability?"
Andrew couldn't help ribbing him before saying, "Alex, there's someone else with the same power as you, but neither of you is an ability user."
"Someone else has the same power as me, and neither of us is an ability user?"
Alex was stunned. He asked, "Then why can I dream about disasters and sense how the survivors will be killed?"
"I was puzzled by that too, so I specifically went looking for another survivor like you."
Andrew raised his hand and sealed off their surroundings so their voices wouldn't carry. Then he said, "I studied it carefully and discovered that it's a form of fate backlash."
Alex, Brandon, and Claire all looked utterly baffled. "Fate backlash?"
"Yes, fate backlash. You've all been cursed by the Grim Reaper and are destined to die. That's his Death Fate ability."
Andrew said, "Any ability involving fate is incredibly powerful. Precisely because it's so powerful, it's difficult to control. The Grim Reaper clearly isn't strong enough, so it causes a backlash.
"Sometimes, someone who can predict disasters appears in the Grim Reaper Game. That's fate striking back at the Grim Reaper. Fate wants that lucky person to resist him and lead everyone away from certain death."
This would continue until the Grim Reaper reached the Skyfather level. At that point, he would no longer suffer the backlash.
"I don't really understand. Okay, I don't understand any of it."
Alex and Brandon looked completely lost, while Claire seemed to have a vague grasp
