"Rats are gone. Are we safe now?"
The survivors in the Market District looked at one another. Happiness had come too suddenly, and for a moment, they found it hard to accept. Their defensive line had almost been breached.
Once they confirmed it was safe, many of those who had been fighting collapsed onto the ground, panting nonstop. They had been utterly exhausted. If falling meant certain death, they might have dropped long ago.
"Looks like other superheroes came to help. They used some strange ability to lure away the Rat Army. I hope they can deal with the rats smoothly. Don't let them come back."
A man spoke, and everyone nodded in agreement. After this was over, they had to properly thank that new superhero. If he had not come to help and taken the rats away, there would not have been a single living person left in the Market District.
Of course, they also had to properly thank the superhero who had been helping them all along. Thankfully, New York had plenty of superheroes. Otherwise, today would have been far worse.
These Mutant Rats might not have been much of a threat to superheroes, but to ordinary people, they were lethal.
Clang, clang, clang. Several Rat-Fur Needles struck Samantha's shield, all of them bouncing away and falling to the ground. Rat-Fur Needles were still just Rat-Fur Needles; they were not capable of piercing a steel shield.
This first wave of Monsters was not actually that strong. It was only the opening ceremony, after all. The stronger ones were still to come.
"These rats aren't strong. They're just disgusting."
Samantha cursed, moving aside the steel shield and opening fire. Andrew shouted, "Stop attacking. We're almost there."
