The Serpent Countess froze at his words, then asked hesitantly, "With our current strength, dealing with the president certainly won't be a problem. The issue is how the Disaster Countermeasures Bureau and the other countries will react. Should we wait a little longer?"
Wait for what? Simple: for Duke Victor to become a Skyfather. By then, they might not even need to act. One word from him, and the president would willingly give up his seat.
"I'm only one step away from becoming a Skyfather now. The problem is, there's no telling when that breakthrough will happen. It could be tomorrow, or it could be a year from now."
Duke Victor shook his head and said, "I don't want to wait another year. Great times create great heroes. If I miss this opportunity, I may never become the leading figure of the new era.
"There are plenty of clever, ambitious people in this world. I'm not the only one aiming to become king. Other gangs and organizations have the same idea.
"Besides, pressure is a good thing. A little push might be all I need to break through. Right now, I'm just one final step away."
"That's true."
The Serpent Countess nodded, then asked, unwilling to give up, "Duke, is there any way to take that final step?"
"If I had the blood of a Skyfather monster, I could break through immediately. Unfortunately, we haven't seen any Skyfather-level monsters yet. Even if one existed, we couldn't get its blood."
Duke Victor shook his head. A trace of regret flashed through his eyes, but quickly vanished.
Human blood wouldn't work, because Duke Victor's ability involved devouring monsters' genes and blood. Besides, even if it did work, he couldn't obtain any. He was no
