Andrew feigned astonishment. He stopped walking and said, "I was just trying to get you out of this area so the vampires wouldn't set their sights on you. But instead of them targeting you, you're targeting them?"
"I'm a Demon Queen. Isn't it perfectly normal for me to target vampires?"
The woman in red spoke as though it went without saying. "We'll enter the city, conceal our identities, and observe the situation. You'll follow my orders and do exactly as I say."
"First of all, we can't conceal our identities."
Andrew turned to look at the woman in red. "I'm an Easterner, and you're a stunning beauty. How are we supposed to hide either of those things?
"The moment we walk into the city, everyone will stare at us. Then word of an Easterner carrying a beautiful woman into town will spread throughout the city in no time. After that, the nobles will send people to find us and invite us over."
"That really is a problem."
The woman in red felt a headache coming on. Easterners were still fairly rare in this country and had a certain legendary mystique. The locals were bound to be curious.
Besides, most Easterners who had come here before were wealthy merchants doing business. The nobles would certainly invite them over and hold a ball or something—they held balls even without a reason, so they certainly wouldn't pass up an excuse.
And with the woman in red's beauty, it was only natural that someone would set their sights on her. In the past, that would have been easy to resolve. The Invisibility Technique or Disguise Technique could have handled the problem effortlessly. The trouble was that she couldn't use any magic now.
