Although the silver door in front of them certainly looked futuristic, no matter how they looked at it, it hardly seemed like some incredibly powerful device, much less one that had cost a hundred million dollars to build. It was only natural for Human Torch and The Thing to have questions.
"Scamming Iron Man out of his money? What nonsense are you two talking about?"
Mister Fantastic, Dr. Reed, shouted indignantly, "Am I that kind of person? Even if I went bankrupt, I would never use a sham project to scam someone out of funding."
"Before you go bankrupt, pay me this month's wages. Oh, and my bonus."
Human Torch's remark nearly made Dr. Reed furious enough to stab someone. Having a brother-in-law like this was such a headache. What? He wasn't his brother-in-law anymore? Fuck, that made it even worse.
"I'm not wasting any more words on you two. This is the Multiversal Energy Gate I invented."
Dr. Reed pointed at the gate and said, "Once activated, it will summon versions of us from other worlds and fuse them with us, then help us absorb vast amounts of cosmic energy.
"We aren't actually short on cosmic energy, because I've already developed a way to extract it."
"Right, Iron Man developed one too. He also came up with the Cosmic Energy Potion and the Cosmic Fusion Potion."
The Thing's remark left Dr. Reed looking thoroughly displeased. This is my moment to show off—or brag, whatever. Why do you keep bringing up Iron Man?
I admit I developed this technology a little later than Iron Man, but that wasn't because I lacked ability. It was because I lacked money.
Human Torch urged him on. "Reed, ignore that big lug. Keep going."
