"I took some serious losses this time, Arthur. Remember to get me plenty of tasty food from the surface."
Karason said this, then curled its severed tentacles around itself and returned to the depths of the ocean. Only Aquaman could understand what it was saying.
After comforting Karason, Aquaman surfaced and swam swiftly toward Hancock.
Hancock was in a bad way, getting knocked all over the place by Number Five Doomsday. Fortunately, he was tough enough to barely hold on.
The arrival of Green Lantern and Aquaman let Hancock breathe a sigh of relief. "Are all the Justice League's enemies this strong? How have you survived this long? Have you bought life insurance?"
"Don't tell me you're about to sell us insurance."
Green Lantern quipped as he manifested fighter jets. "It's not too bad. We only fight Gabriel, the Son of Satan, and the like every now and then."
"Gabriel? The Son of Satan?"
Hancock was speechless. After thinking for a moment, he said, "I've decided to join your Justice League. Fighting powerful monsters with you sounds pretty interesting."
"I hate to rain on your parade, but given your circumstances, you probably can't join the Justice League."
Aquaman continued attacking as he said, "The Justice League has very strict requirements."
Hancock glanced at Aquaman with undisguised disgust. "If even you can get in, why can't I? Not only are you scruffier than me, you smell worse, too."
Aquaman's face darkened. Why did you have to blurt out the truth? I'm the mighty King of the Sea. Don't I deserve some dignity?
Green Lantern kindly reminded him, "Big guy, when it comes to new members, the Justice League has a one-vote veto policy."
"..."
Hancock's expression froze, as though he had just watched a door slam shut in his face.
