After Zhao Tianlei climbed back down from the rooftop through the pipes, he frowned as he looked through the third-floor window. The entire third floor of the library looked like a slaughterhouse, with bits of flesh and blood splattered everywhere on the walls, creating a terrifying scene.
Many zombies were still in the reading room, feeding on the corpses. Zhao Tianlei knew without a doubt that there were no survivors left here.
Sighing softly, Zhao Tianlei continued to climb down the pipes to the second floor. Compared to the third floor, the second floor was much better. Other than a few lone zombies, there wasn't a large horde gathered together like on the third floor. He jumped in through a window on the side of the corridor. Although Zhao Tianlei moved quietly, he still attracted the attention of a zombie a few steps ahead.
Before the zombie could even get up, Zhao Tianlei swung his fire axe with one hand, severing its head. Zhao Tianlei had deliberately sought out a lone zombie to test his strength after evolving.
After this test, Zhao Tianlei grinned. It was too easy, like an adult bullying a child.
"Ding, gained 1 Experience Point. After becoming an Evolver, you will gain equal experience points for each zombie or mutated creature you kill. Once you have enough experience, you can level up to increase your Strength. Evolvers can also disable sound notifications and receive a prompt when experience is full."
As soon as Zhao Tianlei finished off a zombie, a prompt sounded in his mind. It wasn't the mechanical voice from before, but rather like the voice of a beautiful system announcer from a game. A virtual display appeared in Zhao Tianlei's mind, showing his status. His current level was 2, the rank of a Second Class Soldier.
Besides stats for Strength, Agility, Defense, and recovery ability, there was an experience bar. After killing the zombie, he had gained 1 experience point, but he still needed 150 points to level up. Zhao Tianlei's eyes widened.
"Damn, it takes so much experience to level up. One point per zombie, how long will it take me to kill 150 zombies to level up?"
Despite his words, Zhao Tianlei felt a sense of pride. Before evolving, he could only handle two zombies at most with his fire axe, and he had to be extremely careful. Now, after evolving, he believed he could easily handle five or even more zombies at once without being at a disadvantage.
Suddenly, two zombies shambled towards him from not far away, reaching out their hands. If it were before, Zhao Tianlei would have been terrified or run away. But now, these two zombies were just walking experience points to him.
"Disable notification sound," Zhao Tianlei commanded the system in his mind without hesitation. While he had gained the ability to evolve, he knew he wasn't invincible, and the zombies could still kill him. He didn't want the system's notifications to distract him while fighting.
After disabling the system's sound, Zhao Tianlei stepped forward and performed his signature move. He kicked the closest zombie with all his might. However, when his foot connected with the zombie, Zhao Tianlei froze, exclaiming, "Holy crap."
The zombie he kicked flew backward, hitting the second-floor railing and falling to the first floor due to the impact.
"Thud." It wasn't until the zombie hit the first-floor tile with a sound that Zhao Tianlei believed what he had just done. However, this attack stirred up the zombies on the first floor, and some of the previously quiet ones began to move towards the second-floor stairs.
No matter how confident Zhao Tianlei was in his strength, seeing the many zombies on the first floor made him panic. He quickly decapitated the other zombie with his axe and immediately headed for the rooms on the second floor.
The first floor of the library was the lobby, the third floor was the reading room, and the second floor contained the curator's office and other offices, totaling three rooms, with the rest being quiet study areas. Zhao Tianlei tried the doorknobs of the three rooms, but they were all locked. Seeing the zombies on the first floor about to come up, Zhao Tianlei chopped off the lock of one of the doors with his axe. He then kicked the door open, glanced inside, and quickly entered. He then found tables, chairs, and bookshelves to barricade the door.
After securing the room, Zhao Tianlei began to examine it. To his surprise, the office was like a hotel suite. Upon entering, there was a small office, a bedroom, and a bathroom. It seemed the curator had quite good accommodations. After confirming the door was secure, Zhao Tianlei went into the inner room. He checked to make sure there was no one or any zombies inside. Only after confirming this did he let out a sigh of relief.
Although he had attracted the attention of the zombies outside, they only slowly made their way up after he had hidden in the room. There was a large horde, at least thirty to forty zombies, which was why Zhao Tianlei had fled earlier. When the zombies swarmed up, they lost their target and stood foolishly in front of the office doors.
At this moment, Zhao Tianlei had no worries. No matter how many zombies were outside, he wasn't afraid. He couldn't go out the main entrance, but he could go down from the bedroom window. What made Zhao Tianlei uncomfortable was that after injecting the Virus Evolution Fluid yesterday afternoon, he had passed out from the intense pain. He had woken up this morning to the rain, completely soaked, and his clothes were sticking uncomfortably to his body.
Now that Zhao Tianlei was hiding in this suite-style office, there was a hot shower available. Zhao Tianlei decided to take a shower and dry his clothes before going out. It was still drizzling outside, and Zhao Tianlei didn't want to run around in the rain, as being wet was very uncomfortable.
