The library's main entrance was locked from the inside, but it wasn't tightly sealed, allowing a view of the outside through the gap. Just as Zhao Tianlei was banging on the door, seeking help, the students inside saw the outside scene through the door's gap. Especially when they saw some zombies walking towards the steps, some students immediately cursed loudly at Zhao Tianlei and Wu Bin.
Hearing the curses from inside, Wu Bin immediately got angry and retorted, "What? We just saved you guys on the sports field moments ago. Let us in quickly."
"Qian Hao, what are you doing? They are our classmates, they just saved everyone. Open the door quickly and let them in." Suddenly, a familiar female voice rang out. Zhao Tianlei and Wu Bin naturally recognized it as their class monitor, Ye Sitong.
As she spoke, they felt the door tremble slightly, clearly Ye Sitong was pulling on it. Qian Hao, Zhao Tianlei, and Wu Bin also knew each other, though not as classmates in the same class, but as students from the neighboring class.
"Slap."
However, before Ye Sitong could open the door, a 'slap' sound was heard, followed by Ye Sitong's scream. It was obvious that someone had roughed up Ye Sitong to stop her from opening the door.
Immediately after, Qian Hao's voice sounded again, "You damn woman, do you want to get everyone here killed? There are zombies behind them. Once the door is opened, those zombies will rush in too, and then all of us will die. If you want to die, go die alone, don't drag everyone else down with you."
"Bastard, Qian Hao, you just wait for me. Once I get in, I'll definitely settle the score with you." Feeling his class monitor being beaten up while trying to save him, Zhao Tianlei immediately cursed. Especially since he had risked his life to rescue these people, only to be abandoned by them in the blink of an eye, they were worse than beasts.
"Wu Bin, let's leave here first and think of another way to get in." Seeing the zombies below the steps about to come up, if they didn't leave now, they would be surrounded. Zhao Tianlei immediately pulled Wu Bin and ran towards an area with fewer zombies. With Zhao Tianlei leading the way, they carved out a bloody path.
"Tianlei, Wu Bin, I'm sorry..."
Seeing how the two had risked their lives to save everyone, only for these people to refuse them entry and force them to flee, Ye Sitong felt incredibly sad and cried out loudly.
"What the hell are you crying about? Keep crying and you'll attract those zombies. Damn it." Seeing Ye Sitong crying, Qian Hao became enraged. After cursing, he kicked Ye Sitong in the abdomen, sending her to the ground.
Normally, Qian Hao treated Ye Sitong with respect, even harboring a secret crush on her. However, Ye Sitong had unhesitatingly rejected his advances, leaving Qian Hao feeling deeply humiliated and holding a grudge. With the outbreak of this terrifying incident on campus, and seeing classmates being bitten and killed by monsters all around, Qian Hao, in order to survive, didn't hesitate to beat Ye Sitong. This was partly due to fear, and partly due to the accumulated resentment from before.
"Tianlei, when we were saving people earlier, I clearly saw that scumbag Qian Hao trapped on the stage. But that guy didn't show any loyalty. Seeing us chased by zombies, he didn't care if we lived or died."
After Zhao Tianlei and Wu Bin fled from the library's main entrance, Wu Bin couldn't help but complain to Zhao Tianlei along the way. But after complaining, Wu Bin couldn't help but feel dejected, "Tianlei, what do we do? If we had just stayed in the dorm, we would have been fine. Now we can't even get into the library, and there are zombies everywhere on campus. I've dragged you down."
Zhao Tianlei quickly comforted him, "It's okay, brother. If we can't get in through the main entrance, we'll go through the back. Qian Hao treated us like this, and he even dared to hit our class monitor. I will never let him get away with it. I will definitely slap him across the face for our monitor and then throw him out to feed the zombies."
The actions of those hiding in the library had truly chilled Zhao Tianlei. Although Qian Hao was physically imposing, and Ye Sitong tried to open the door, Qian Hao stopped her. If other classmates had stood up to help Ye Sitong at that moment, Qian Hao wouldn't have dared to be so arrogant.
The library was a three-story building. The first and second floors were for book displays and individual reading areas, while the third floor was a spacious reading room. The library alone could accommodate about a thousand people, and its sturdy construction made it a very safe place to hide. What Zhao Tianlei found unbelievable was that in this new viral apocalypse, the selfishness of human nature had already begun to show.
The library was a place Zhao Tianlei frequented. Because he came from a poor background, Zhao Tianlei didn't even have a computer. During holidays and breaks, his classmates played computer games in their dorms, while Zhao Tianlei had to work. His only form of entertainment was reading in the library, so he was quite familiar with it.
The library had two doors: the main entrance, where students and teachers usually entered and exited, and the hidden door, which was an internal emergency exit. The escape door was rarely used, at most only when the library staff moved books. Generally, it was not a passage for people. With a nervous Wu Bin, Zhao Tianlei knocked down the nearest zombie with an axe and then, with Wu Bin following closely behind, they rushed towards the library's back door.
Seeing two living people slip away from their grasp, the zombies, driven by their instinctual predatory response, shambled towards the direction the two were running. However, as these zombies had only recently formed, their walking speed could be described as a turtle's pace. At this point, as long as they could carefully avoid them and not pass too close, they generally wouldn't be caught.
Arriving at the library's back door, which was more secluded, there wasn't a single zombie nearby. Zhao Tianlei hurried to pull the door, only to find it was still locked from the inside. Opening it from the outside would be difficult. It was an iron door, and even if Zhao Tianlei tried to chop it open with his fire axe, it was unlikely.
Seeing that the door still wouldn't open, Wu Bin became anxious, "Tianlei, what do we do? This back door is also locked from the inside. We can't get in at all."
Zhao Tianlei immediately said, "Step on my shoulders and climb in through this window. Once you're inside, don't make a sound. Quietly come down and open this back door for me."
Wu Bin replied, "Okay, don't worry. Once I get inside, I'll definitely open the door for you from the inside."
Then, Zhao Tianlei let Wu Bin step on his shoulders and start climbing. After all, entering university meant experiencing military training and various extracurricular activities and sports training. Especially for male students, their physical strength and agility weren't poor, and they could easily overcome this height.
