Emperor Xian Xian and the others halted in midair, gazing at the vast forest in the distance—or rather, at the Dry Wood Wolves filling it.
Looking at those Dry Wood Wolves, Xian Xian frowned. "Are there really wolves this ugly in the world?"
The trees before Xian Xian were all over a thousand zhang tall. They looked exactly like dead trees, with skin resembling something gnawed by insects—dry and wrinkled. No one would call such trees beautiful.
And on the trunks of these trees, one eerie wolf-face after another bulged out strangely. They looked exceedingly bizarre.
Were they wolves? Or trees? Whatever they were, they were hideous.
The Dry Wood Wolves stood perfectly still. Even when over a hundred members of the wolf clan arrived with Xian Xian, not one of them moved, as though they had not noticed Emperor Xian Xian and the others at all.
Looking past the trees, Emperor Xian Xian saw the center in the distance, surrounded by countless Dry Wood Wolves. Black Qi filled the area, and amid it came wave after wave of splashing sounds, while vine tendrils appeared and vanished within.
A powerful aura radiated from the Black Qi, as though some peerless expert lay within.
Xian Xian led the pack inward. They had barely flown a short distance when the Dry Wood Wolves before them suddenly moved. Long tree vines lashed over, each one like a whip.
One vine was nothing. But a hundred, ten thousand, or a million? The sky was filled with vine whips, an overwhelming display of dominance.
"Stop!" a Dry Wood Wolf suddenly called out.
The voice came from the wolf face on the tree.
"I want to see your leader!" Xian Xian said in a deep voice.
"Stop!" the Dry Wood Wolf repeated.
