They pressed onward against the flow, heading out.
All they could see were packs of Living Corpses sprawled across the wasteland, crawling, kneeling, sprinting, and howling like beasts.
Wave after wave of Living Corpses answered the Forest Kingdom's call and hurled themselves into hell without hesitation, slaughtering and devouring one another, becoming ravenous wolves or reduced to sacrifices. Whether they succeeded or failed, from the instant they entered this place, they had become consumables of the Forest Kingdom.
They possessed no reason whatsoever, capable only of instinctively attacking every living thing before their eyes.
Little Cow and Horse's front end had already been dyed scarlet with blood.
The Living Corpses flung themselves forward in fearless swarms, only to be shattered one after another.
Amid the final wails and shrieks, Ji Jue lowered his head and looked at the ghoul in the mud beneath his feet—its eyes bloodshot, its mouth open in a frenzied roar, though no sound came out anymore.
Its pale face still bore the cracked traces of sun exposure and a faint flush.
It was clearly a child.
There was no trace of childish innocence or ignorance left to be seen. Its crimson eyes were filled with madness. Even with only half its body remaining, it continued its dying struggle, constantly trying to open its mouth, trying to bite.
Ji Jue remained silent and pulled out his pistol.
He bent down.
He pressed the muzzle against the child's forehead and found the right spot.
For an instant, Ji Jue's lips moved slightly. In the end, though, he said nothing. He merely pulled the trigger in silence.
Bang!
And so, there were no more shrieks.
He raised his head and looked around.
In the dim wilderness, nothing remained but shattered corpses.
Above them, Shangri-La's Giant
