History

Growing Calamity

White Stone Town's Dao Artifact accumulated Calamity Qi over generations. Its rules required a price for power: using an artifact capable of contending with the town's Judge generated calamity, while greater power accelerated the process toward an inevitable sixty-year Great Calamity 115.

The Ji Family attempted to reduce the burden through increasingly brutal measures. Before the Great Calamity Cataclysm, roughly fifteen of the twenty nearby villages had been sacrificed over two decades, while Demonic Monster exterminations also increased the town's echoes 132. Yun Ye later witnessed the aftermath of a massacre that killed ten thousand people and produced Flying Zombies, hardening his resolve against the town's upper ranks 137 139.

When the Great Calamity arrived, White Stone Town's Dao Domain became invalid during the Hour of Rotation. A massive black barrier formed near the town, saturated with resentment and Calamity Qi 136. Ji Chongtian, the Spirit Law Magistrate, ordered the major aristocratic families to take turns resisting the calamity alongside the town's defenders 132.
