But Makarov acted as though he hadn't seen a thing. "But what?"
Chen Fan was a little puzzled. Was the common language of Earth not working here? He leaned close to Makarov's ear and whispered, "But I don't have any money."
"No money? You should've said so earlier! I have money." Makarov looked utterly righteous and generous. Chen Fan thought to himself that this was indeed the leader of a major guild. Now this was what it meant to be rich.
"Tell me, how many gold coins do you need?"
Bang...
Chen Fan toppled off the table headfirst and hit the floor. But he immediately scrambled back up, leaped to Makarov's side, and grabbed him by the neck with a furious look on his face. "Tell me, do you want money or your life?"
A Good Man!
In the end, under Chen Fan's threats and promises of all sorts of benefits—a stick and a carrot—Makarov obediently took out his private stash, then sprawled on the floor and burst into sobs.
"Shut up! Your crying is giving me a headache!" Chen Fan roared at the weeping Makarov. Makarov seemed to be cowed by him and stopped crying, though he still sniffled now and then, looking like a wronged little wife.
Chen Fan ignored him, spat on the ground, and carefully counted the few scattered bills in his hands. The more he counted, the more contemptuous he became. With such a huge guild, this was all the private money Makarov had? He had no idea how Makarov had managed to be guild master.
Ignoring Makarov's resentful gaze, Chen Fan waved the money in front of his eyes. Makarov's eyes followed Chen Fan's hand around, and at last, with tears filling his eyes, he watched Chen Fan stuff the money into his pocket and head out of the guild.
Ever since arriving at Fairy Tail, he hadn't properly explored the city. But he wasn't familiar with the place. Who should he ask? Chen Fan stood at the entrance of the Fairy Tail guild, thinking deeply enough to bewilder the passersby.
Makarov? Chen Fan had just extorted quite a bit of money from him. He was probably somewhere crying right now. Pass.
There was no need to consider Natsu and Gray. Even if he didn't get lost with those two, they would definitely cause a lot of trouble. Chen Fan hated trouble most of all. If things went badly, he might even have to spend the little money he had.
Mira? But she didn't seem to like him much. Back in his original world, Chen Fan had liked the gentle and kind Mira, but she was still just a child now. Not good enough. Definitely not good enough!
Who else was there? Lisanna? Uh... a gentleman didn't steal another man's beloved. It would be bad if she was dazzled by his charm. At that thought, Chen Fan smugly swept back his hair, golden starbursts gleaming in his eyes as he curled his lips into what he thought was a charming smile, making someone passing by the guild vomit in disgust.
Then Chen Fan suddenly saw Elfman leaving the guild with his head hanging low. He licked his upper lip and thought, You're the one, little kitty.
With a spring-breeze smile on his face, he walked up to Elfman, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "Yo, Elfman. What's wrong? Did your sister lecture you again?"
"How did you know?" Elfman asked in confusion. Chen Fan thought, What a big idiot. He fell for it just because I tossed it out there.
"Of course I know. Not only do I know, everyone in the guild knows." Chen Fan made an exaggerated gesture with his hand.
"The whole guild knows?!" Terror appeared on Elfman's face. After all, this had no small impact on his dignity as a man.
Seeing Elfman's expression, Chen Fan knew he had believed him. Once Elfman believed him, everything would be easy.
He moved close to Elfman, a mysterious smile on his face. "Do you want to become a real man? Do you want your sister's praise and your little sister's admiration? No nonsense—just tell me, do you or don't you?"
"I do."
"I can help you make that wish come true."
"Really?" Excitement showed on Elfman's face. Clearly, Chen Fan's words were highly tempting to him.
"Of course it's true. I wouldn't tell just anyone. I only wanted to train you properly because you have the makings of a real man. If you don't believe me, forget it." With that, he turned and started walking away, shaking his head as though he were deeply disappointed in Elfman.
Seeing Chen Fan about to leave, Elfman hurriedly grabbed his arm.
"Let go!" Chen Fan shouted.
"No, I won't," Elfman said firmly.
