Gen Shima
An artificial island floating roughly 330 kilometers south of Tokyo. Also known as the Demon Special Zone, it was established to protect endangered demonkind and study their bodily tissues and special abilities. It was a place similar to Academy City.
Most of the island's residents were researchers and their families, as well as special ability users recognized by the city. Naturally, this included demons serving as research subjects. In return, the demons who helped operate the Special Zone were granted corresponding civic rights. They could study, work, and live just like humans.
Of course, registered demons—that was, demons legally residing in Gen Shima City—were fitted with wristbands that restricted their abilities or served as alarms. These wristbands could be used to distinguish humans from demons.
Humans waged wars among themselves, and demons naturally did not have much better tempers. Some demons often caused harm to the city over minor frictions, so humanity established a special response organization to handle such emergencies and protect the people on the island. It was called the Special Zone Security Force, the Gen Shima City Special Demon Countermeasure Mobile Unit. All demon-related incidents on the island were handled by them. They were typically equipped with large-caliber cursed-energy rounds capable of incapacitating beastmen and "Amber Gold" warheads, as well as armed unmanned helicopters and mortars.
They were somewhat like Academy City's Security Force, but compared to Academy City's Security Force, this organization was far too cold-blooded.
The city had many similarities to Academy City. Or rather, it was more of a fusion between the Science Side and the Magic Side. A city like this naturally had no shortage of urban legends.
It was eight in the evening, and there were still many pedestrians on the streets. Men and women
