(Chapter 3: Outside the Novice Village)
Following the instructions, Chen Fan arrived outside the city. Beyond the massive city walls stretched a vast grassland, with a road leading to another town.
Several black wild boars roamed the grassland outside the gates. Above each of them was an HP bar. These were probably the low-level monsters around here. Chen Fan looked around and found that there were very few players out hunting monsters.
Chen Fan drew his shortsword and walked toward the nearest boar. When he entered a certain range, the boar's eyes glowed red. It quickly turned around, snorted out two heavy breaths, and pawed at the ground with its hind hooves, as if it could charge at him at any moment.
When Chen Fan took another step forward, the boar came thundering toward him. A faint smile appeared on Chen Fan's face. Low-level monsters that only knew how to charge headlong were far too easy to deal with.
Chen Fan shifted slightly to the left, and the sword in his hand traced an arc. Blue light shimmered across the shortsword. In the instant he and the black wild boar passed each other, he drove the blade into its side.
The boar continued charging forward. Slash...! Chen Fan's sword tore a long wound along its flank.
No blood flowed from the wound. Instead, it glowed crimson, reminding him that this was not reality, but a virtual game.
More than half of the boar's HP bar vanished at once, nearly emptying it. It was clear that Chen Fan's attack had dealt the black wild boar tremendous damage.
Chen Fan did not look at the black wild boar. Instead, he looked at his own hand. Just now, when he assumed the stance, the attack skill seemed to activate naturally on its own.
