His eyes glowed red, and the image of braised pork reflected in both pupils. He had clearly mistaken the enormous wild boar for a roast suckling pig.
He stomped down hard with his right foot. Nothing happened. He stomped again. Still nothing happened.
Damn! Only then did he remember that he was no longer the Level 5 everyone feared, the one monsters fled from on sight. Annoyed, he kicked a stone on the ground.
As luck would have it, the stone flew straight at the boar and struck it on the head with a bang...
"Swish."
The boar turned its head toward Chen Fan, its eyes glowing red. Clearly, Chen Fan's kick had enraged it.
"Thud, thud..." Its front hooves continuously pawed at the ground, its head aimed directly at Chen Fan.
With a whoosh..., it charged at Chen Fan. The ground shook as it ran. Chen Fan, who had been angry just moments ago, only raised his head after feeling the earth tremble. What greeted his eyes was a gigantic pig face. Before he could react—
Bang! Chen Fan was sent flying.
Only while he was in the air did he realize what had happened. As he flew through the air, he could not help thinking, Damn, I can't believe I got rammed by a pig.
A sudden burst of intense pain hit him, and he completely passed out, tears of humiliation still on his face.
Arriving at Fairy Tail
Chen Fan slowly opened his eyes and saw bright flames flickering before him. Startled, he hurriedly sat up.
"Ow, ow, ow! Hiss..." His sudden movement pulled at his wounds, making him cry out in pain as he sucked in a breath.
"Hey, you're awake. You're really something—getting sent flying by a pig. Hahaha, hahaha..."
Laughter reached Chen Fan's ears, startling him. Ignoring the pain, he looked up ahead and saw a short old man beside him, clutching his stomach and laughing without a shred of dignity. The firelight Chen Fan had seen earlier was merely a campfire.
Though the old man's mockery left Chen Fan fuming, the man had saved him after all, so he ignored him and warmed himself by the fire. He had not expected the temperature difference between day and night to be so great. Chen Fan was shivering from the cold.
Seeing that Chen Fan was ignoring him, the old man felt somewhat embarrassed. "Ahem, ahem." After two dry coughs, he said, "Kid, what's your name?"
"Chen Fan." He did not even raise his head, and dissatisfaction was obvious in his tone.
Sensing Chen Fan's displeasure, the old man grew awkward. After coughing twice again, he said, "Then do you know who I am?" His brows rose, and his tone carried a hint of pride.
Only then did Chen Fan carefully examine the old man. He was short and squat, and his eyebrows wriggled up and down, making him look rather lecherous.
After staring for a long while, Chen Fan suddenly came to a realization. His voice abruptly rose as he said, "Could it be... you are..." He paused, and the old man seemed to think he had been recognized, puffing out his chest as high as he could.
"Who are you?"
Bang! The old man slammed his head into the ground.
After finally climbing back up, he said to Chen Fan, "You don't even know me? I'm the great Makarov, one of the Ten Great Wizard Saints." After saying that, he put one hand on his hip and pointed a finger at the sky.
"Wait, what did you say your name was?"
"Makarov, one of the Ten Great Wizard Saints."
"Let me think. Give me a second, give me a second." Holding up a hand to signal Makarov to stop, Chen Fan muttered somewhat strangely. He felt that the name was familiar, right on the tip of his tongue, yet no matter how hard he tried, he could not remember.
"Grrr..." Chen Fan's stomach suddenly growled. His expression immediately turned miserable, and his thoughtful look vanished completely as he collapsed onto the ground.
At that moment, Makarov took a loaf of bread from his bag and held it out to Chen Fan. Chen Fan was so moved that he nearly cried.
