Chen Fan faced the true form of his Zanpakuto, then returned to Soul Society and became Captain of the 10th Division after surviving its political pressures and defeating Kenpachi Zaraki. He began settling into his new post while Aizen and his allies prepared for what was coming.

• Chen Fan challenged his white-clad Zanpakuto, whose battle devastated the Forest of Menos and Las Noches, and discovered that it had held back because Yoruichi was nearby.
• After returning to Soul Society, Chen Fan announced his engagement to Yoruichi and Soifon, rejected Aizen’s offer of power, and faced opposition from the Shionin Family.
• Yoruichi urged Chen Fan to become a captain to quiet the family’s objections, and Jushiro Ukitake recommended him for the vacant Captain of the 10th Division position.
• Chen Fan fought Gin Ichimaru while rushing to help Miako Shiba, then reached her in time to stop Metastacia from possessing her and killed the Hollow.

Chen Fan recruited Toshiro Hitsugaya into the 10th Division and later learned that Rukia had been sentenced to execution. As he prepared for the crisis, he visited Rukia and Kukaku Shiba, leaving the rescue plan unresolved.

• Chen Fan visited Shino Academy, demonstrated his strength, and recruited Toshiro Hitsugaya into the 10th Division after hearing about Soujirou Kusaka’s death.
• Chen Fan clashed with Kenpachi Zaraki and the 11th Division, then continued his life with Rangiku Matsumoto and the 10th Division.

As Aizen framed Chen Fan for a string of murders, Chen Fan escaped Soul Society to rescue Kaien Shiba and Miako Shiba from Arrancar. He defeated the attackers and hurried back as Rukia’s execution approached.

• Ichigo Kurosaki and the other intruders entered Soul Society, while Chen Fan let them proceed and later instructed Toshiro Hitsugaya’s division to turn a blind eye to their rescue attempt.
• After Yamamoto imprisoned Chen Fan and ordered Rukia’s execution, Ichigo and his companions fought their way through Soul Society, and Ichigo defeated Ikkaku Madarame before clashing with Renji Abarai.
• Aizen and Gin Ichimaru were found dead, and Momo Hinamori accused Chen Fan of killing them based on Aizen’s letter, and Kaname Tosen was later found dead with Chen Fan’s name written in blood.
