"You're not supposed to understand. Once you start middle school and learn physics, you'll gradually get it."
Candy raised an eyebrow as she looked at Zero, who had his head tilted back at a 45-degree angle, looking smug. "Zero, I think you're the problem. If a teacher can explain something so I understand it, why can't you?"
"What?"
"I can't?"
"I'm not bragging, but even all the teachers at your school combined don't know as much as I do."
"People's understanding develops over time. It's like when you were little. You hadn't even learned to walk yet—could you already fly?"
Zero was confident that he'd explained things clearly enough to finally shut Candy up.
But it turned out he'd thought too highly of himself.
The moment Zero finished speaking, Candy burst out laughing. She clutched her stomach and giggled. "Wrong! I went to college first, then kindergarten."
The smile on Zero's face froze. He tried to argue back. "That doesn't count. You couldn't even do anything useful in college, and you didn't learn anything."
"Zero, you're wrong again. The seal on my graduation certificate is real. You can ask Big Brother if you don't believe me. And who says I didn't learn anything in college?"
Candy counted on her fingers and made her case. "Look, from learning to talk to learning to walk, then learning to run, and even feeding Baozi—which of those things isn't knowledge?"
"I learned tons in college. Otherwise, where do you think my graduation certificate came from? I earned it fair and square."
After Candy's string of utterly unreasonable arguments, Zero simply turned to look out the window. There was no point talking to her; she'd only ever accept her own reasoning.
"Zero, why aren't you saying anything?"
"Hey, you're ignoring me just because you can't
