Chardo Port's harbor district had suffered extensive damage. The great battle had subjected it to one disaster after another: flooding, bombardment, freezing, and fire. Although the Steam Lords had already begun rebuilding the district with remarkable efficiency, its residents clearly couldn't move back right away. And those damned Dagon fishmen had used tidal magic to destroy almost every pier, forcing the ships that had been docked there to find somewhere else to berth.
But that didn't mean there were no ships in these waters.
In fact, just outside Chardo Port's harbor district, nearly thirty vessels of all sizes were anchored in a dense formation, making up an entire fleet. Every one of them was a true warship.
Shipping in the world of Transia was generally still at the level of the early Age of Exploration. For example, the pirate ships of the Blood Dread Fleet were basically equivalent to galleons from another world. Blood Captain Baburo's flagship, the Plunderer, was somewhat larger, but it had been converted from a large merchant ship. In terms of firepower, it was inferior to a proper warship.
The warships anchored outside the halfling port, however, looked very different from the ships used by humans and vampires.
They were magnificent and ornate, with religious reliefs decorating their enormous, streamlined hulls. Their most distinctive feature was the strange vines twining around each ship, regardless of size, and serving a variety of practical functions.
These luxurious warships didn't look as though they were built for battle. They looked more like works of art gliding across the sea.
