"So, what exactly are we waiting for?"
The unhappy Great Shark and a bunch of equally unhappy Vam brothers huddled together and grumbled.
They weren't allowed to go off on their own and attack the undead in front of them. They could only follow behind the slowly advancing dragoons and deal with stragglers, all while staying clear of the death spells and melta cannon fire the Netherworld Army unleashed.
That was right: the regular Netherworld Army was equipped with a vast number of melta cannons, which formed part of the dead's ranged firepower.
These heavy weapons were usually mounted on super-heavy units like bone scorpions or undead colossi. They were designed to attack cities like the Guardian's Great Wall. Their large-caliber shells packed tremendous destructive power and could set targets alight and pierce through energy barriers. Apart from their slow rate of fire, they had few obvious weaknesses.
Still, the weapons didn't really suit the undead. So the Holy City of the Dead Moon had been trying to develop new weapons of war for the Netherworld Army, drawing on the principles behind the melta weapons the Sangaians already knew how to make.
Fortunately, that plan had made little progress. Otherwise, today's battle at the Holy City of Origin would have been even more frustrating for the ever-victorious foreigners.
While Great Shark was still complaining about how much he wanted to cut loose, a melta beam shot in from ahead and struck the dragoon directly in front of them. The searing energy pierced its outer armor, and the machine gave a buzz before collapsing on the spot. Great Shark and the others had no choice but to move at once, lest the enemy's melta cannons fire at them next.
That shut everyone up.
It turned out that the Sangaians' Netherworld Army
