Four suits of power armor slammed down into the dense forest. The momentum they had built up during their fall sent them crashing to the ground like meteors, toppling trees and kicking up clouds of dust.

These professionals locked onto their targets as soon as they landed and opened fire. Two assault models had a pair of six-barreled rotary cannons mounted behind their shoulders, and they swept the area with a howl of burning-gold rounds. Behind them, two support models carried rocket-bombardment systems on their backs and leaned forward as they landed, blanketing the area ahead with fire.

In an instant, flames erupted through the forest, drowning everything before Murphy in a thunderous barrage.

Caught off guard, the elven rangers were blasted and burned, dropping in rows like wheat beneath a scythe. But amid the flames, their charred corpses quickly twisted and rose again.

Once the disguise of the living had been stripped away, they revealed their hideous true forms. Unlike the Chaos-corrupted, who sprouted all manner of strange mutations, these creatures tore open their skin to expose a sickening mass of bright-red flesh, then thrust out at least three pairs of bone blades, like multi-limbed insects.

Their faces became skull-like and grotesque, as if all their bodily fluids had been drained away, leaving behind eerie specters.

They were clearly a kind of Chaos creature, probably a "new model." Compared to the zombie-like appearance of ordinary Chaos-infected, these creatures all "transformed" in much the same way. That meant they were probably higher up in the Chaos vanguard's hierarchy.

Like the difference between cannon fodder and elite, armored swordsmen.

But it didn't matter.
