He wasn't just making things up.
Considering the ghost's "unique identity," Murphy didn't dare pin such an awful mess on his "father-in-law" in front of his lover.
He had indeed sensed a certain degree of Chaos corruption in the ghost before them. But the fact that it had miraculously retained some of its sanity and hadn't completely fallen to Chaos suggested that Murphy's judgment might have been slightly off.
"Sarif said that spirit battles occasionally take place in Majewa City's arena. The shadow elves are also quite skilled at spirit-binding sorcery, and there's a chance that the arena itself can capture the souls of gladiators who die here.
"Perhaps Father's spirit had formed long before Majewa City fell.
"Maybe that's why Sarif buried him here—he was hoping this would happen. He may even have been certain of it. He insisted that I come here so I could see my father again.
"He just didn't expect Chaos to be involved."
Adele held Blackshadow Fang and shared her guess with Murphy. The vampire governor made no comment.
It wasn't that he didn't want to discuss why his father-in-law had appeared as such a strange spirit. Rather, the ghost attacked them as soon as Adele finished speaking.
It began with a move very much like Sarif's assassination swordsmanship.
With the evasive slide of a classic Shadowstep, it seemed to blink into existence before Murphy and thrust its spirit blade at him. His tough wings crossed to block the attack, and he took the blow without a scratch.
Murphy grabbed Adele by the wrist. As his wings
