Murphy didn't stay long in Shadowdeep City, but the players' antics had certainly opened his eyes.
Unlike psionic projections, otherworldly entities couldn't break down alcohol quickly. The immediate result was that the family guards patrolling Shadowdeep City at night could find half-dressed foreigners misbehaving on practically any street.
Some had drunk themselves silly and sat by the roadside, mumbling to themselves.
Others wandered in circles around the shadow elf city, claiming they were trying to find their neighborhood. Somehow, they'd gotten hold of keys and were trying them in every lock they came across, frightening the shadow elf residents half to death.
The worst offenders had already been thrown into Shadowdeep City's prison. They'd gotten drunk and urinated near Lady Lolth's statue, which was a serious act of blasphemy.
It turned out that it was better to stay away from alcohol.
Just look at Meow Brother. He knew how to keep his priorities straight and only sampled the drinks. While a bunch of unlucky souls were singing prison songs in the shadow elf jail, Meow Brother was already off somewhere enjoying himself.
The guy had decided that starting that very night, he'd write a timeless masterpiece: a "realistic" guide to the women of the Otherworld, based on his own firsthand experience.
But it turned out Meow Brother was just as clueless as the rest.
His ordeal with the proprietress, who'd worked the Great Shark to the point of ecstasy and exhaustion, had taught him nothing about reading the room. So the next morning, Old Qu and Sanwudou had to go fetch Meow Brother, who was too drained to walk, and bring him back to their temporary lodgings.
Most absurdly of all, Meow Brother even had two red envelopes in his pocket.
No one knew who'd taught the shadow elves this
