The Feathered Serpent Strait lay in the central region of the Sunset Continent. It was a natural waterway separating the border of the Aztec Kingdom from the Spirit Plains.

From above, the winding strait nearly split the Sunset Continent in two. To the north lay the Spirit Plains, homeland of the Ganot people; farther north, patches of permafrost stretched like ice sheets. South of the strait were the Aztecs' verdant lands and the Heart of the World Forest, at the center of their vast kingdom.

Viewed from above, the Sunset Continent's geography was nearly perfect.

The northern continent, where the Spirit Plains lay, was especially flat. Aside from Eagle Gorge, an east-west mountain range, and a north-south river, there were few changes in elevation. Water was plentiful, too. Seven lakes, large and small, stretched from south to north, leaving no true drought- or flood-prone regions. No wonder the Ganot people had thrived for a thousand years while maintaining their nomadic traditions.

King Louis's obsession with the New World wasn't unfounded. He knew its natural conditions were excellent. With the Old World no longer offering room to expand, opening up those lands was the perfect way for the kingdom to embark on a new path to greatness.
