The territory of the Rending Claw Clan was mostly spread across the points where psionic energy converged in the Dark Mountains. In Silver Dwarf terminology, these were leyline nodes. This was closely connected to the clan's unusually large number of spellcasters, but it also meant that its territory was scattered. It was not joined together like the Whiptail Clan's lands, nor did it occupy a vast stretch of wilderness like the Broken Fang Clan.

But as one of the five great clans, the Rending Claw Clan did have a fixed central territory.

It was a region near the area between the Eternal Rift and the Gray Desert. Together with the goatfolk city of Wedia Abyss and Mirror Lake, the largest source of water in the Dark Mountains, it formed a triangle that divided up the plain with the richest psionic energy in the Dark Mountains.

You couldn't expect the gnolls to give their territory some grand name. In fact, they casually called it "Rending Claw Plain." The goatfolk, by contrast, had given it a decent name: "Ashen Land." The plain had been formed by geological upheaval caused by a violent volcanic eruption a thousand years ago.

According to the goatfolk records, the region had been blanketed in thick volcanic ash for nearly a century afterward. This made Ashen Land one of the few relatively fertile regions in the Dark Mountains, and also made the Rending Claw Clan the only gnoll clan with any significant agriculture.

But they didn't grow food. Instead, they covered their territory with all kinds of materials needed for alchemy and voodoo magic. Put simply, they were developing "new-style agriculture."
