"Holy shit! How did I die? There wasn't any warning at all!"
In the bedroom at the Banzai Happy Stick household, Brother Fa sat propped against the headboard in a tank top and board shorts. He took off his gaming helmet, looking completely bewildered. His game connection had just been cut off, and the suddenness of it left him baffled.
The helmet display said his character had died because, after completing the Embrace, his child had been too badly injured, and his vitality had been transferred to them. With his vitality at zero, he'd naturally died.
That shouldn't have been possible. After all, Banzai Happy Stick had been the one leading the Embrace. How could his child have "sucked him dry"?
But the thing was, the helmet wouldn't lie.
He couldn't log back into the game, and the 72-hour countdown to his resurrection had already begun. It was clear what had happened. When Murphy had embraced him earlier, this idiot had only watched a cutscene and hadn't really understood the principles behind the Embrace.
In fact, the little players didn't understand the inner workings of this sacred vampire ritual at all.
Put simply, there were differences in strength. Murphy was far stronger than the little players, so he wouldn't be hit by a backlash. But the balance of power between Brother Fa and Melia Colando was the exact opposite. Even though he had initiated the Embrace, he was unquestionably the weaker one.
"Damn it, I knew this feature couldn't be finished! It's obviously a half-baked mess! And they released it anyway. The hell is wrong with that development team? They've screwed me over! I didn't have to die!"
