A Perfectly Timed Version Update
Happy Stick had drawn just the right amount of "aggro" with that stunt, and most players had completely overlooked the version update announcement Murphy had quietly uploaded.
At long last, he'd avoided the awkwardness of being roasted by players for "sneak-attacking" them every time there was an update. But the Administrator didn't have much choice. He couldn't kick all the players out every time there was a major update and put on a show of "restarting the server," could he?
Wait! Hold on!
Why not?
Come to think of it, he really could pull a stunt like that from time to time, just to remind those who'd started searching for the "truth" that this was nothing more than an ordinary game test. Sure, those who'd already decided they knew the truth would see it as just another lousy, clumsy "smokescreen," but something was better than nothing, right?
After all, who had ever heard of having to put up with "server updates" after being transported to another world?
Murphy thought it was a pretty good idea.
So he made a prominent note of it in his "developer notebook." But after he reminded Meow Brother to check the update, interest in the posts condemning Happy Stick quickly dwindled, and everyone moved over to the freshly published update thread.
This was a genuine "major update"!
