Bernie City, the capital of the Kafuhoka region, had been an important eastern stronghold of the now-defunct Bosia Confederacy back when the region still belonged to it.
It was not known for commerce. Instead, it embodied the character of the Kafuhoka region: it was the continent's most important hub for collecting and trading grain, with vast quantities shipped from here to every corner of the continent each month.
Even when the Ten-Year War reached its most difficult point, grain trading in Bernie City had never been interrupted.
After all, before the northerners sent their troops, this place had been a major rear base supporting the war effort.
Many important figures from the Bosia Confederacy had taken refuge here. But the sudden betrayal and entry into the war by the Kingdom of Nordtov had dealt a blow to the city's order, and the effects on local traditional trade had yet to fully fade even now.
When the Winter Wolf Legion had first taken over Bernie City, all grain trading had briefly ground to a halt. But before the grain piled up in warehouses expired, a "good Samaritan" had stepped forward and solved all Her Majesty the Wolf Girl's troubles.
That good Samaritan was Murphy.
Now, vast quantities of grain from Bernie City were being shipped to Transia twice a week, fulfilling one of the responsibilities laid out in the "relief agreement" reached between the Transian Governorate and the Nordtov authorities.
Thanks to this large-scale trade, Bernie City's traditional commerce had regained its vitality. It still fell far short of its most prosperous days, but to the new players who had traveled from Transia to "see the world," it was already far, far better than the mess back home.
