Amid the ruins of Blightbane Town, Niu Niu, bandages wrapped around his body, carried the stone egg he'd found among the ruins of the Warlock Tower. He carefully inched toward the swamp serpent, half of whose body was buried beneath the rubble.

He wasn't deliberately courting death. The six dormmates who had already logged off had specifically asked him to do this.

They'd insisted that Niu Niu return the egg they'd stolen to the serpent they'd used.

Behind Niu Niu, Kachitoni Tai and Ni Gei Lu Da You stood to one side, making all sorts of strange noises and loudly trying to scare him. The two of them had seen the creature in action with their own eyes, and they absolutely wouldn't risk going near it.

The legendary serpent had been hit by dozens of gold-burning high-explosive rounds in Blightbane Town and relentlessly attacked by gnoll warlocks. It was on its last legs, but who knew if it might rally at the very end?
