The "sheriff" system among players was a special profession derived from Lord Kudel's unique powers.
Its power system drew certain general skills from Kudel's career tree as a classical Grail Knight, but on the administrative side, it was also given the duty of "maintaining order and protecting the people." It could be thought of as an armed police force on the lands of Transia under Murphy's rule.
Of course, the progression from sheriff to magistrate was a special product of special circumstances.
In the Scarlet Consul's plans, once Transia's administrative forces had become more firmly established, a dedicated police department would be created to take over the magistrates' currently overcomplicated responsibilities. But Murphy and Triss thought the organization could be kept around.
Introducing an officially sanctioned patrol officer for the Order faction as a distinctive game class would be pretty exciting.
And it would absolutely appeal to the heroically minded among the Order factions.
But for now, becoming a sheriff was rather demanding. Players had to raise their reputation with Kudel and reach at least Honored with every faction in Transia. Those strict requirements meant there wouldn't be many players on this career path.
Of the forty-five appointed sheriffs, more than two-thirds were former Witch Hunters. Only a handful were players.
Naturally, the five most famous were Cat Bro and his four brothers. They all had sheriff as a secondary profession and were Kudel's retainers, whom he considered "apprentices."
But the other player sheriffs had rather "complicated" backgrounds.
