(Bonus chapter for Brother "Huo Zheng Ting Hao," 3/20)
"Holy crap, that was brutal."
After the battle, Brother Bang and the surviving members of the four-man melee squad toured the battlefield. Looking at the players' corpses, their computational orbs reclaimed, he couldn't help sighing.
Thanks to Murphy's disguise, they didn't immediately turn into points of light upon death. Their corpses could remain for several hours, stabilized by their psionic dog tags. As a result, the seventeen lucky survivors got to see the bizarre ways their comrades had died.
The more ordinary deaths involved being killed by vampires in various ways. Less common was being carried into the sky by a vampire and dropped to his death.
Rarer still was the ignominious death of Coo-Coo Chicken. While executing a vampire, the guy had been clawed by his opponent in a "we both die together" move.
He'd died a truly horrible death.
"Only two of the Tiger and Leopard Cavalry survived. That's basically total annihilation. Damn, they really were tough. Half the vampires we took down were killed by them.
"But that casualty rate was insane, wasn't it?"
River East Lion's Roar, behind Brother Bang, pursed his lips and said:
"We sent them in as vanguard, not as a suicide squad. I just saw Old Lie take out a vampire who'd lost a hand by blowing them both up with an alchemical bomb. That kind of fighting is way too reckless."
"You don't know shit."
On the other side, West Sichuan Wolf Walk snorted. He prodded the blurry flesh of a vampire beside him, hacked into eighteen pieces but slowly regenerating in a pool of blood, with his spear and said:
"They fought so hard because they wanted the loot. Didn't we agree before the fight? Whoever kills one gets its loot.
