(An extra chapter for "Huo Zhengtinghao," 6/20)
Lady Adele was stopped outside the tent by Bonnie, the "personal guard" Triss had recruited. Bonnie wouldn't let her approach until Murphy and Femis emerged from the tent.
"Protect Triss at all costs!"
Murphy spoke to the female vampire before him. She looked deranged, yet utterly loyal and reliable, with wild, unkempt hair and not a shred of poise.
The latter eyed Murphy warily with her blood-red eyes and twitched her high nose, apparently picking up a scent similar to that of Lady Triss. Then she slapped a hand against her chest.
As the impressive pair of breasts wobbled, she rasped:
"I shall not fail!"
"Good. I'll leave this to you."
Murphy nodded and signaled to Lady Adele. The three vampires turned and left.
Triss said she had used her mental illusions to weave new memories for the now-mad Bonnie. The fact that the young lady had been unable to unravel those false memories on her own for thirty years was ample proof of Triss's extraordinary talent in that area, so Murphy wasn't worried about the mad Silver-rank vampire losing control.
His mind was now full of worry over the trouble hanging over the young lady.
"Lord Murphy!"
As they reached the woods beyond the camp, Lady Adele took six vampire hearts from her psionic bag. She floated them in the air and respectfully offered them to her elder.
Murphy was a little surprised by the haul.
He had given Lady Adele a task with only three targets. His bloodkin had certainly done well for herself. Of course, this also showed just how powerful a half-elf rogue with Sinner's Blood could be on a battlefield at night.
"It seems you truly have a wish you're desperate to fulfill."
Murphy didn't stand on ceremony
