The bonfire in the Witch Hunter camp flickered and burned in the darkness, like stars scattered across the night.
But the night was not peaceful.
Especially in the ruins of the outer district, just beyond the wall, where many of the collectors from the survivor camp were still hard at work.
After Jade and his group had died, Murphy had announced his next plan to the survivors: they would soon move back to this land, cleansed by fire, and would no longer have to gaze upon their homeland from inside the camp.
The survivors felt encouraged.
Especially when Murphy allowed the militiamen to take part in the hunt for Jade and his group!
He offered little explanation for this decision, but that did not stop the clever ones in the camp from discerning what the new lord, Lord Murphy, thought of his kin.
Many stories about Murphy and Triss were unearthed and pored over again and again. Judging from the circumstances of this pair of disgraced elders and their disgraced descendant, rejected by the vampires, it was easy to reach a conclusion that might not be accurate, but was certainly believable.
Compared with the vampires of the Blood Eagle Clan, Lord Murphy seemed more like a midnight traitor. He was clearly more willing to stand with the humans who had sworn their loyalty to him!
Wow!
Even in the world of explosive news, this conclusion was explosive. And this was Transia, of all places!
As a dark region ruled by vampires for four hundred years, it had almost never seen a vampire like Murphy.
And the rare always drew attention.
If Murphy kept doing things that set him apart from other vampires, he would likely soon win the favor and loyalty of those who had long been dissatisfied with vampires.
