On the castle walls.
Two angels stood at opposite ends.
A woman knelt between them.
She glanced at the angel on her left, then at the one on her right, looking quite at a loss.
"Forgive me for asking, but which deity do you represent as you descend into the mortal world?" Gu Qingshan asked.
The angel tilted its head and stared at Gu Qingshan in silence.
It looked him over as if he were a creature it had never seen before, its gaze filled with incomprehension.
"Don't look at me like that. I actually understand you even less," Gu Qingshan said.
He gave the woman a meaningful look.
The woman's heart jumped. She promptly bowed to the two angels and started to withdraw.
But then the angel suddenly raised its hand and pointed at her.
The woman's expression turned dazed. She knelt again, facing the angel, and bowed. "I will follow your instructions. The child I bear will perform the sacred matters you have bestowed upon him here on earth, save all living beings, and show them the way to God's Kingdom."
The angel nodded.
Gu Qingshan couldn't help saying, "Hey, I'm the one who saved your brothers—and your king."
The woman didn't even glance at him. She silently bowed to the angel once more, then withdrew.
On the castle walls.
Only the two angels remained.
Gu Qingshan's expression grew intent. He abruptly sent out his divine sense, crossing nearly a hundred miles to probe deep into the forest.
He observed the knights again.
They were eating meat and drinking wine as they chatted among themselves.
"Haha, we're saved. We have that spiritual stag to thank."
