High-Stakes Gamble
This was already the slums. There were not only no surveillance cameras along the way, but scarcely any pedestrians either.
The place the other side had chosen was good, and the timing was perfect for murder and silencing witnesses.
Ironically, that instead erased Gu Qingshan's lingering worries.
In the distance, a piercing alarm sounded.
Gu Qingshan looked up to see a small police Flying Shuttle speeding over through the air.
There was no one around. No one could possibly have called the police. For them to arrive at such a convenient time, it seemed they had arranged it beforehand.
Under normal circumstances, he would already have been stabbed to death on the spot. The police would then come down to collect the body, pick up a dagger, make a token record of the scene, and hastily close the case.
By the time Su Xue'er learned of it and sent people to investigate, they would find nothing at all.
The next day, someone would naturally turn themselves in, claiming they had gotten drunk, started a conflict, and struck too heavily in the heat of the moment.
Once the man was dead, what could Su Xue'er do?
The matter would end there.
Gu Qingshan cast a cold glance at the small police Flying Shuttle, grabbed the only young man still alive on the ground, and swiftly vanished into the darkness.
Elsewhere.
The casino.
Nie Yun glanced at the cards in his hand. "Deal. I'm staying in."
The female dealer could not help wiping the sweat from her forehead. Taking a deep breath, she dealt cards to the two players.
"Young Master Nie, isn't this a bit too much?" Slicked-back Hair Sunglasses Man said from across the table.
Behind Sunglasses Man, a slender figure hid behind the back of a chair, not even daring to show her head.
Nie Yun said indifferently, "It's only two million. If you can't afford it, you can fold."
"Two million is nothing, but you also want the Red Card Girl in my hand. That, I can't bear to part with," Sunglasses Man said.
"I can add more money," Nie Yun said.
Feeling the slight tremble of that slender figure, Sunglasses Man gave a bitter smile. "My Red Card isn't for sale. Let her go, and I'll give you two more top-quality girls. How about it?"
Nie Yun said, "That woman dared splash a faceful of wine on me. I want her to understand a few things."
A middle-aged man in a black bow tie and white shirt walked in and whispered several words into Nie Yun's ear.
Nie Yun slapped him across the face and said coldly, "Who told me there wouldn't be a problem?"
The middle-aged man lowered his head. "I'm sorry, Young Master. Give me an hour, and I'll arrange for people to solve the problem."
"You only have half an hour," Nie Yun said.
The middle-aged man paused. "Yes. I'll go myself."
He turned and strode away.
"What is it, Young Master Nie? If something is bothering you, why not let me handle it?" Slicked-back Hair Sunglasses Man said.
Nie Yun snorted. "What are you trying to do?"
Sunglasses Man spread his hands. "Very simple. I'll solve one problem for you, and you let my Red Card go."
Nie Yun thought for a moment, then suddenly smiled. "How about we make this more exciting?"
Sunglasses Man groaned inwardly, but his face lit up as he said, "Please, Young Master Nie."
For ordinary playboys, Sunglasses Man would not have bothered to show any respect. But Nie Yun was from the greatest aristocratic family in Changning Prefecture apart from the Su Family.
Sunglasses Man had spent years moving between the underworld and the legitimate world. He knew deeply that if he wanted to accomplish anything on this patch of land, he absolutely could not offend this young master before him.
Nie Yun fiddled with his communication Light Brain and projected an image onto the snow-white wall.
Nie Yun said, "This is my subordinate. I just told him to activate a live projection. We can see that he's moving quickly."
Sunglasses Man nodded. "That's right."
Nie Yun said, "He's going to kill someone. Let's bet on how many moves it'll take him to kill the target."
Sunglasses Man hesitated. "Who is the target?"
"A poor student—oh, right. I'm betting he kills him in one move." As Nie Yun spoke, he gave an instruction into his communicator.
Sunglasses Man smiled bitterly. "Your subordinate is a Martial Arts Grandmaster. Even when killing a martial artist below Five-Star, he'd only need one move."
Only after reaching Nine-Star could a martial artist have the chance to challenge the Grandmaster Realm.
Once one entered the Grandmaster Realm, one had completely departed from the realm of mortals. Even an army could not deal with such an existence. Only by deploying a group of combat mechs would there be a chance of defeating one.
Martial Arts Grandmasters possessed status equal to that of nobles. Everyone revered them, and the world looked up to them.
"Are you betting or not? If you don't, I'm turning hostile. Don't blame me for not giving you face," Nie Yun said impatiently.
"Fine." Sunglasses Man took a deep breath. "Then I can only bet that he won't kill that poor brat in one move."
"Now that's more like it. If you win, the two million is yours." Nie Yun wore a smug expression.
"And if I lose?"
Nie Yun said, "I want both the money and the Red Card Girl."
Sunglasses Man's face twitched. He was about to decline when a voice came from behind him. "Bet with him."
Sunglasses Man lowered his voice. "What if we lose?"
The slender figure stopped trembling and said softly, "Then kill every member of the Nie Family, strip him naked, and send him off to become a real Red Card."
She added, "At worst, I'll abandon the mission and return home."
A chill ran through Sunglasses Man's heart. He knew this lady had no intention of enduring it any longer.
Looking at the arrogant and overbearing Nie Yun across from him, he let out a silent sigh. "Fine, I'll bet."
Nie Yun snapped his fingers, smiling as he raised his wineglass. "Very good. Let's quietly watch Fierce Tiger hunt—watching a Martial Arts Grandmaster kill someone is a pleasure too."
Elsewhere, the Martial Arts Grandmaster ordered to kill was moving at high speed.
It was deep into the night. Dim lights continuously streaked backward past his sides. The whole city was sinking into sleep, yet his movements were light and agile, making not the slightest sound and disturbing no one's slumber.
He was the Nie Family's chief retainer. Fierce and cruel by nature, he had always led all the Nie Family's Martial Dao practitioners. In his early years, he had made quite a name for himself and was known in the martial world as "Fierce Tiger."
That poor brat lived in a building in the slums, on the twenty-second floor, in the third room from the left.
Fierce Tiger understood his mission perfectly.
Open the door, rush in, kill the target. That simple.
But he would never let his guard down. After all, the group arranged ahead of time had all vanished without a trace. He could not contact them, nor could he locate them.
Something about this was strange.
As he was thinking, his communicator suddenly rang.
"Fierce Tiger, the person is in my hands."
Fierce Tiger was somewhat surprised. "Didn't I tell you to kill him directly?"
"No, no, no. I think the price should be raised a little."
Damn it. So that was it. Fierce Tiger cursed inwardly.
Those scum from the Underground World dared raise their price at the last minute. Had Fierce Tiger's reputation become insufficient to intimidate them?
Fierce Tiger bared his teeth in a savage grin, forcing his tone to remain calm. "The price can naturally be discussed. Where are you?"
"I'm waiting for you at the place where that brat lives. I trust you know where it is."
The communicator disconnected.
Fierce Tiger roared furiously and smashed the roadside billboard with one punch.
You dare raise the price with me? Just wait. The name Fierce Tiger was not earned for nothing.
He accelerated, his entire body like a gray meteor streaking across the night sky.
Five minutes later, Fierce Tiger stood on the twenty-second floor of that building. After confirming the room number, he kicked open the security door.
