In a storage room a dozen yards from Hao Shuai's guest room, a gust of chilly wind blew past. With a creak, the door, which had been shut, swung open, revealing a brand-new coffin inside.
Yin energy gathered in the room, growing denser by the moment. Suddenly, the coffin, which had been closed, began to slowly open.
A scarlet hand crept out and gripped the edge of the coffin. Its ink-black fingernails were several inches long. A figure abruptly sat up inside the coffin: a female corpse dressed in a bright red burial robe, blood streaming from all seven orifices.
The female corpse crawled out of the coffin. Faint moonlight fell upon her, casting a long shadow.
As if she had caught the scent of the living, the female corpse began hopping toward the four traveling merchants, who were fast asleep in the room.
"Hey? That's Corpse Transformation!!" Hao Shuai recognized the all-too-familiar classic scene at a glance.
As the saying went, when a person died, the flame of life was extinguished. A corpse was supposed to lie still and wait to be laid to rest. This one, however, was clearly a little too restless.
But the Strange Tales World truly lived up to its reputation as a world overrun by ghosts and demons. Corpse transformations and reanimated corpses happened at the drop of a hat. In other worlds from the Age of Declining Dharma, even one as supernatural as Uncle Jiu's, it would take a special environment for a corpse to reanimate. There probably wouldn't even be enough Yin energy to gather otherwise.
