Things had gone just as Dr. Serizawa and the others had expected. The nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada, had been destroyed, and the MUTO inside had escaped, heading all the way to the gambling city of Las Vegas in a trail of sparks and lightning.
When Dr. Serizawa and General William opened the latest video sent from the front and saw the giant creature attacking Las Vegas, everyone's expression changed.
"Dr. Serizawa, why is this MUTO so huge?" General William asked gravely.
It was no wonder he was so shocked. There was an enormous difference in size between the two MUTOs.
According to the video sent from the front, the MUTO in Las Vegas was estimated to be at least 91.4 meters tall and weigh more than 60,000 tons. By comparison, the previous MUTO had been just 61 meters tall and weighed only 15,000 tons.
Dr. Serizawa stared intently at the MUTO in the video, lost in thought. Suddenly, he looked up at General William and exclaimed excitedly, "I know! This one is a female MUTO. That's why it's so huge."
"We all know that in nature, females of many species tend to be larger than males to make it easier to reproduce. Black widow spiders and praying mantises are just two examples."
"The MUTO in Las Vegas is a female. We were all wrong before. The male MUTO wasn't responding to Godzilla—it was awakening the female."
After hearing Dr. Serizawa's explanation, General William stopped worrying about the MUTO's size and continued asking questions. "Then what are they after?"
"Reproduction!" Dr. Serizawa said firmly. "They're following their biological instincts and preparing to reproduce. That's why the male MUTO attacked the nuclear submarine. It needs radioactive material to ensure successful reproduction."
