The North Sea was an ocean in the northern part of the continent, close to the North Pole's magnetic axis. Its days were short and its nights long, and the climate was harsh and bitterly cold. It was a perilous place where no ordinary person could live.
The Eastern Extremity, as its name suggested, was a land at the far eastern edge of the continent. The east was the source of Wood, and although it lay thousands of miles from the world of men, it teemed with life and was home to many immortal herbs and elixirs. For this reason, it had once attracted many cultivators to settle there.
A desolate mountain towered over the Eastern Extremity. It was called Great Wilderness Mountain, and it rose so high it seemed to touch the heavens. Seen from afar, it looked like a pillar holding up the sky.
According to legend, a Divine Wood Palace stood atop Great Wilderness Mountain. It was the home of Giant Wood Divine Lord, an immortal exiled to the mortal world. Giant Wood Divine Lord was the son of the Eastern Azure Emperor and held the highest station. Though he had later been banished to the mortal realm, he still looked down on all living things and refused to live alongside ordinary people.
When Giant Wood Divine Lord first decided to settle on Great Wilderness Mountain, he had ordered all the cultivators living in seclusion in the Eastern Extremity to leave, seeking to demonstrate his unrivaled might. He had even gone so far as to fight a world-shaking battle against them.
