"Sir, this distinguished gentleman would like to see you," the guard said eagerly as soon as he saw the warden.
"Hello, I'm in charge here. May I ask who you are—" The chubby man wearing a red headscarf, head of the prison, was equally polite.
"Sell me the white prisoner you have locked up here, a man named O'Connell. This is yours."
Hao Shuai didn't wait for the warden to finish. He tossed a purse over to him.
After checking the gold coins inside, the warden said politely, "Please wait a moment. I'll bring him right over."
With that, he grabbed the purse and hurried nimbly out of the office.
Hao Shuai simply shrugged, found a place to sit, and idly toyed with Selena's jade-like hand.
He wasn't worried in the slightest that the warden might take the money and fail to deliver, or get greedy. Or rather, he didn't care.
With overwhelming strength, when Hao Shuai chose to follow the rules, everyone else had to follow them too. Otherwise, he'd flip the table and start cutting people down.
As it happened, Hao Shuai didn't know that even if he'd asked for the prisoner without paying, the warden wouldn't have dared utter a word of protest before obeying.
He'd sensed an unmistakable air of nobility about Hao Shuai and Selena, the kind of aristocratic bearing that took generations to cultivate.
He assumed they were nobles from London, so how could he possibly dare slight them?
After all, the British Army was still stationed in Egypt! The warden was a native Egyptian. How could he risk offending some great noble?
Hao Shuai didn't know that the warden, despite looking so fat, had thought through all this in the space of a moment.
But then again, when it came to noble bearing...
