Unlike in the original story, O'Connell's side had two extra overpowered allies: Hao Shuai and Selena. It might have seemed like only two more people, but with four pistols between them, Hao Shuai and Selena had still managed to kill nearly two-thirds of the men in black.

Even their leader, Adbe, captain of the Pharaoh's Guard, had been shot off his horse by Hao Shuai and rendered unable to move.

He was the only one to survive an encounter with Hao Shuai.

He had only survived thanks to his face, which was identical to Carlos's in Resident Evil 2. Out of consideration for old times, Hao Shuai had gone easy on him.

With Captain Adbe injured and unable to step in and stop the gunfight, the men in black had only realized how badly they'd been beaten once they came to their senses. They hurriedly retreated.
