The idea of immortals and gods had been passed down since ancient times. Mortals had striven for generations to attain eternal life, and though none had yet succeeded, some cultivators had glimpsed the workings of Creation of Heaven and Earth. With mortal bodies, they wielded immense power; aided by all manner of Mysterious Treasures and Magic Artifacts, they could shake the world with the Might of Thunder. It was even said that certain highly accomplished elders had lived for over a thousand years without dying. People believed that Attaining the Dao and Becoming an Immortal was possible, so ever more of them embarked on the path of Cultivation and Dao Seeking.
The Vast Divine Land was boundless. Only the Central Plains were fertile and abundant, and most of the world's people lived there. The borderlands to the east, south, west, and north were full of treacherous mountains and dangerous waters, vicious beasts and birds of prey, deadly miasmas and poisons, as well as Savage Tribes who lived by hunting and drinking blood. Few people ever ventured there. Since ancient times, people had also told of Primordial Remnants still roaming the mortal world, perhaps hidden in deep mountains and secluded valleys, living for tens of thousands of years—though no one had ever seen one.
By now, cultivators were as numerous as fish crossing a river, beyond counting. And because the Vast Divine Land was so vast and Extraordinary People and Eccentric Scholars so numerous, the various methods of cultivation were legion and differed greatly from one another. The path to Eternal Life remained undiscovered, yet sects and distinctions between righteous and evil paths had gradually emerged. Sectarian Bias, intrigue, and even bloody conflicts had become commonplace.
When immortality
