It was late at night.
A rumble of thunder rolled, wind swept away the clouds, and dark clouds churned across the horizon.
A storm was brewing, and a murderous stillness filled the air.
Puzhi was still inside the thatched temple in Grass Temple Village, sitting cross-legged in meditation. He looked up. Qingyun Mountain in the distance had faded into a hazy outline. The wilderness was silent, filled only with the howling wind and thunder.
What a fierce gale!
A flash of lightning split the sky. The little thatched temple standing alone in the wind lit up for an instant. Puzhi had already reached the temple entrance. He stared up at the sky, his expression grave, his brows drawing tighter and tighter.
At some point, a plume of black mist had risen from the village to the west. Thick as ink, it churned without pause. Puzhi stood inside the temple, staring fixedly at it.
Suddenly, the black mist swept upward and spiraled into the air, heading straight out of the village toward the thatched temple. It moved with incredible speed and arrived in the blink of an eye. The old monk's sharp eyes spotted two children caught inside it: Hao Shuai and Lin Jingyu, whom he had seen that day.
Puzhi's expression changed. Seeing someone abduct the hope of Tian Yin Temple's revival, he sprang into action without hesitation. His withered frame shot up into the air and plunged straight into the black mist.
From somewhere in the darkness came a voice tinged with surprise. "Hm?"
Several muffled thuds rang out, and the black mist abruptly stopped, circling above the thatched temple. The old monk, with Hao Shuai and Lin Jingyu tucked under his arms, slowly descended. A piece of his kasaya had been torn away.
