Boom, boom, boom—
High in the night sky, lightning flashed through the dense clouds.
Countless silver dragons flicked their silver tongues and coiled together. The tribulation clouds, flashing with lightning, spun and gathered, forming a huge vortex in the sky that covered several miles in every direction.
Beneath the enormous vortex stood a woman in white, her head held high. She stared solemnly at the densely packed lightning in the clouds. After a long while, she sensed that the most crucial moment in her cultivation was about to arrive—the Golden Core Tribulation.
In this world, all things had their own allotted lifespan. Mayflies could not live more than a day, mosquitoes could not live through all four seasons, and human beings had at most a hundred years. Such was the way of Heaven.
Cultivators, whether human, demon, ghost, or monster, seized the fortune of Heaven and Earth and plundered the mysteries of the sun and moon. Once they succeeded, their lifespans increased greatly, their looks remained youthful, and they completely escaped the innate limitations of their species.
Heaven and Earth are not benevolent; they treat all things as straw dogs. Anyone who defied the principles governing the way of Heaven would naturally be punished. Thus, every cultivator faced a tribulation upon reaching a certain level of cultivation—the so-called Golden Core Tribulation.
The Golden Core Tribulation was the first major tribulation cultivators had to face, and it was extremely fierce. Without help, few cultivators could withstand it, especially those strange beings and rogue cultivators who cultivated in the mountains without a master to teach them, a sect to protect them, or a magical treasure to aid them.
As luck would have it, the woman in white before them was precisely such a cultivator: an unaffiliated, treasureless, sectless outsider.
