Background / History
The Land of Rot was once a powerful world with a magical empire and a functional industrial base. Its surviving records are fragmented, but its civilization used calendars such as the Blazing Sun Year and Silver Moon Year. 258
During the Evil God Calamity, the world was overrun by a vast number of Evil Gods. Powerful defenders such as the Goddess of Repose and Saintess Renaxia were forced into retreat, sleep, exile as Lost Ones, or annihilation. Cultists opened world portals and worsened the invasion, while dungeon growth drained the world's supernatural concentration and devastated its original inhabitants. 190 212
The world became a decaying prison of dungeons, corrupted survivors, Evil God followers, and fallen divine remnants. Its immense mass began pulling nearby weak worlds toward it, while the Dungeon Rules restrained Evil Gods but also became a major source of corruption. 260 337
After Xiao Yang purified the Temple of Repose, the Land of Rot revealed further explorable branches, including the Barren Wasteland of Dead Bones, Blackstone Sewers, and Windmill Town. 149 He entered the world through the Dungeon Gate at Level 22 and immediately attracted the attention of multiple Evil Gods. 184
As the Dungeon Rules weakened, dungeon monsters began taking on more human-like intelligence and behavior, while dungeons transformed into special World Nodes around which cities and fortresses emerged. 338 354 The City of Hope became a center of resistance and reconstruction, with its central fountain and the Horn of Plenty restoring life to surrounding land. 338
In its final struggle for survival, the Land of Rot split and discarded its dying original World Will. Its remaining instinct chose the chaotic Evil Gods parasitizing it, granting them favor rather than allowing the world to collapse outright. This decision alarmed neighboring powers, including the Asgardians, who sought to dismantle the world. 571 572
Environment
The Land of Rot appears superficially normal in daylight, with sun, clouds, and wind, but its sunlight provides no warmth. Roads run through withered vegetation, hanging corpses, ruined settlements, and dark waterways polluted by monsters, toxins, and accumulated death. 184 465
- Its wilderness contains ruined dungeons, cultist territory, corrupted settlements, and survivor enclaves such as Clock Tower City. 198 201
- Its rivers are dangerous and vary in color: black waters shelter Mermen, green waters contain abnormal algae-like masses, yellow waters carry filth and toxins, and red waters are saturated with death. 465
- The world’s sea is dark and abyssal; later, colossal sea monsters emerge from it to attack the City of Hope. 574
- The weather worsens as the world’s condition deteriorates; daytime skies can turn black even without clouds. 574
- The Black Soil Basin contains soil used to create artificial magic stones and is protected by statues of Lost Ones’ gods against Infection and corrosion. 585
Night Cycle
Night in the Land of Rot lasts from 6 PM to 6 AM. It is far more active and dangerous than daytime, as bizarre entities, monsters, voices, knowledge, and forms emerge freely after dark. 191 227
- Evil Gods can inflict stacked Evil God’s Gaze effects that rapidly reduce Spirit. Xiao Yang lost nearly 120 Spirit during an early nighttime exploration. 187
- The world’s near-mandatory sleep mechanism restores sanity and stabilizes Spirit for survivors enduring corruption. 208
- Blood Moon Nights intensify the influence of entities such as the Crimson Moon and place severe pressure on the God Game’s defenses. 227
- As conditions later changed and the nighttime blockade weakened, the density and speed of aberrations on the plains decreased. 353
Inhabitants
Survivors and Lost Ones
The surviving population includes mutated humans, corrupted residents, refugees, job-changed workers, and Lost Ones returning from exile. Many retain some humanity despite physical mutation and exposure to pollution. 201 336
- Clock Tower City — formerly Windmill Town; it admits shantytown residents only once per month in exchange for extraordinary resources. 201
- City of Hope — Xiao Yang’s expanding stronghold and the principal center of organized resistance, reconstruction, and trade. 338 352
- Lost Ones — former inhabitants or factions who fled the Land of Rot and later returned to support the City of Hope. 352 372
- Salvation Army — Xiao Yang’s forces based in the City of Hope; they defend settlements, expand territory, and fight hostile factions. 410 471
Evil Gods and Their Kin
The Land of Rot contains an exceptional concentration of Evil Gods with conflicting motives. They are not a unified faction; some are hostile, some watch Xiao Yang, and others act out of curiosity or abnormal favor. 184 198
Known Evil Gods and major entities include:
- Pale Hand — an overwhelmingly powerful Evil God that repeatedly directs unwanted favor toward Xiao Yang. 233 281
- Crimson Moon — a powerful entity associated with Blood Moon Nights and widespread chaos. 227 330
- Plague Rat Swarm — hostile toward Xiao Yang and involved in long-term plans centered on Clock Tower City and the Silver Church. 184 232 294
- Beast of Plunder and Usurpation — hostile after Xiao Yang destroyed one of its dungeons and removed one of its eyes. 198
- Holder of Stars, Crimson Eye, Rotting Corpse Swarm, and Abyssal Sleeper — Evil Gods that initially watch Xiao Yang. 184 198
- Wasteland Hyenas — initially curious about Xiao Yang’s arrival. 184 198
Evil God’s Kin follow a distinct hierarchy:
| Evil God’s Kin Rank | Approximate Player Rank |
|---|---|
| Follower | Below Elite |
| Low-tier Evil God’s Kin | Elite |
| Mid-tier Evil God’s Kin | Lord |
| High-tier Evil God’s Kin | Epic |
| Emissary | Legendary |
| Avatar | Demigod |
Dungeons and Corruption
The Land of Rot’s dungeons are both a defensive system and a source of decay. They were originally used to suppress Evil God invasions, but their growth consumes the world’s remaining power and contributes to corruption. 190 337
- Dungeons can upgrade from smaller forms into more dangerous versions, concentrating monsters and resources. Xiao Yang witnessed a Micro Dungeon upgrade into a Small Dungeon. 198
- Dungeon monsters fight survivors, outsiders, and one another, preventing the Evil Gods from acting as a fully coordinated force. 198
- Broken Dungeon Rules later allow monsters to gain human-like behavior and encourage the creation of self-sustaining follower populations. 338
- The world’s inhabitants can gain power through corruption, receiving Traits and Profession Levels in exchange for escalating physical and mental risk. 203
- Local Warrior professions are hybrid systems built from Evil God pollution, Lost One inheritances, normal profession templates, and Dungeon Rules; even basic versions begin at Excellent quality. 573
Relationship with Xiao Yang
- Xiao Yang / Screaming Emperor — enters the Land of Rot to protect his own world and ultimately becomes its principal savior, stronghold-builder, and de facto ruler of the City of Hope. 184 307 561
- World Will — the original World Will appears to seek help through the Mythic Well of Purity, but Xiao Yang initially refuses to involve himself in saving it while surrounded by Evil Gods. 184
- New World Will — after the original will is discarded, a nascent World Will creates sea monsters and acts against Xiao Yang’s interests; he resolves to crush it. 574
- God Game of Plane 33214 — supports Xiao Yang’s efforts and explicitly hopes the Radiant Great World can be saved, despite the main branch not declaring a position. 572
- City of Hope — serves as the Land of Rot’s largest documented restoration project, drawing survivors, Lost Ones, mercenaries, players, and allied factions. 338 352
Major Arcs
Initial Exploration
Xiao Yang enters through the Dungeon Gate, finds a world of withered roads and hanging corpses, and chooses the route toward Windmill Town. The attention of multiple Evil Gods establishes the Land of Rot as far more dangerous than an ordinary dungeon. 184
Clock Tower City and the Plague Rat Swarm
Xiao Yang reaches the shantytowns outside Clock Tower City, encounters mutated survivors, and learns how corruption-based professions shape daily life. His conflict with the Plague Rat Swarm escalates through the Silver Church, Rat Master’s domain, and the effort to prevent the Swarm’s larger plan. 201 294 295
Collapse of Dungeon Rules
Dungeon monsters become increasingly human-like while survivors and returning Lost Ones organize around the City of Hope. The conflict shifts from individual dungeon exploration to territorial expansion, fortified settlements, and open warfare. 338 352 354
Reconstruction and War
The City of Hope restores water, farmland, trade routes, labor protections, and military infrastructure, but faces continual attacks from Evil Gods, Demonic Path invaders, monsters, and external factions. 449 465 471
Final Resurgence
The Land of Rot reaches a final desperate stage, rejects its original World Will, and favors the Evil Gods to preserve its existence. This draws hostile attention from outside powers while turning the world into an increasingly unstable center of conflict. 571 572
Trivia
- Xiao Yang considers the Land of Rot an ideal but catastrophically dangerous “dungeon paradise” because of its enormous number of dungeons, cultists, monsters, and Evil God’s Kin. 205
- The Land of Rot’s time became synchronized with both the Skeleton Dungeon and Plane 33214 as the worlds drew closer together. 227
- A separate Real Dungeon modeled after the Land of Rot was later created in the real world as a post-apocalyptic wasteland challenge. 552
